Episode IV: A New Beginning

Hello, friends;

A project that I am working on with a good friend, colleague and fellow villain/service provider will rely on skills that I've allowed to lapse or never learned and one of those is writing for the web.  So I've decided to revive this here blog.

A few things have changed since last I posted here, thick-haired and hopeful.  I no longer run a small agency but am a mid-level manager at a larger one.  For that reason, I feel a duty to be a little more careful and a little less breezy about causing offense.  Some of the alleged "stridency" that was a feature here will be intentionally curtailed.  But I think there are still thoughts, big ideas and revolutionary manifestos to discuss as well as sarcasm to levy.

I hope my companions of yore will come back and join me.  Anybody still out there?  Or are you all wasting your lives on social networks instead of living richly on blogger?

[doug say] ... Where is Stanley?

Andrew said...

It's my understanding that Stanley has taken a "mid-level management" position with ARCA. He's pushing an efficiency initiative aimed at increasing the number of regional center administrators while reducing the number of RC service recipients. Apparently, it's cost neutral.

Boy, wait'll Stanley hears about that one.

P.S. I almost forgot ... Welcome back! Both the web and the dying discussions of DD services were diminished by your absence.

Thanks Andrew. I was alluding to a previous post that I don't think you commented on, but I did. Unfortunately for my email inbox Stanley was somewhat repetitive. I don't know if you saw that random post but if you did it would have been apparent that I know nothing about the subject at hand.

As far as I know ARCA is an acronym for Association for Research into Crimes against Art. No sarcasm intended but I'm happy to know Stanley has taken a "mid-level management" position at that non-profit institution.

HOLY shoot...doug back since may 2013...i've missed 3 months of running off at the mouth...but as andy surmised i been busy with ARCA...

sorry i missed the doug's coming outta retirement post...thanks for coming out...welcome back...

some info on my job w/ ARCA...have been working on changing its mission statement.

CURRENT (the talk): The mission of the Association of Regional Center Agencies is to represent the autonomous regional centers in supporting and advancing the intent and mandate of the Lanterman Developmental Disabilities Services Act.

to reflect the practice

SUGGESTED (the walk): The mission of the Association of Regional Center Agencies is to represent the autonomous regional centers in dismantling with trailer bills the intent and mandate of the Lanterman Developmental Disabilities Services Act.

also dont understand why they leave my name off the board minutes...

moving on

TERRI DELGADILLO ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT

'many advocates and policymakers gave her enormous praise...as they gave the former DDS directors...'

she is probably a nice conscientious, compassionate person...but she and previous DDS directors (eg cliff allenby, dennis amundson at best maintained an unacceptable status quo...but at her retirement party...advocates will give her an 'atta girl' and 'heck of a job brownie' as they gave previous DDS directors...

guess that's alright as the only ones harmed by the unacceptable status quo are those DDS serves...our children and friends...the least

a 35 year bureaucrat tends to NOT rock the boat...moonbeam should bring someone in from outside the CA system...and let art bolton vet the candidates...

PS where's paul...

karen say: 'Unfortunately for my email inbox Stanley was somewhat repetitive...'

it's amazing that's folks who find stanley repetitive read the repetitive crap...simple solution: dont read stanley's post...

to a more important issue than stanley's repetitiveness:

THE repetitiveness of a system (CA; DDS, RCs, advocates, providers) that repeat the same unacceptable approach/programs is indeed unfortunate...think someone called this stupidity...our children/friends are still waiting for a different results...

Doug,

If Stanley and Andrew don't mind, I'd like to apologize for my now deleted outburst in a different forum.

stanley seigler said...

guess it was a head fake...doug not back...but just for kicks would like to see karen's deleted outburst...

k. riggs gardner said...

oh. right stanley. like no one knows you're one of doug's remarkable (!) facebook friends. if you didn't notice karen's deleted outburst then you weren't paying attention.

k. riggs gardner said...

karen says: furthermore, stanley, could you walk your suggested talk?

Personally, I'm oblivious. I haven't a clue about the mission of the Association of Regional Center Agencies.

k. riggs gardner said...

and stanley, ultimately you're right... you and i can indefinitely argue with no expectation of the blog host's reply because, basically, he's a dork.

stanley seigler said...

@karen...re 'I haven't a clue about the mission of the Association of Regional Center Agencies'... believe you are posting on the wrong board...ie, get a clue then post...

k. riggs gardner said...

[k. a. gardner say] ... "but just for kicks would like to see karen's deleted outburst..."

would stanley like to see another of karen's outbursts?

how about dude "get a life"...

stanley seigler said...

get the impression ka karen is just looking for an argument vice solutions to problems of the DD community...again ka may be posting to the wrong blog...does ka have any suggestion re improving conditions for 'the least'...

Doug The Una said...

I think Karen isn't that interested in the system in the first place. No need for an off-topic argument. I'm trying to get back here.

stanley seigler said...

RE: No need for an off-topic argument

agree but the devil makes me say: it seems as a 'writer' kaka karen would be more original than the worn out, sophomoric, dude "get a life" out burst...ie, something enlightening re the system problems and stanley's non-contributions...

k. riggs gardner said...

Stanley,

I hope Doug Pascover prefers for you to not use me as an allusion to your problems with DD California. I live in Florida and have no idea what you're talking about.

Thanks,
Karen

stanley seigler said...

@karen,

not important and not sure i understand, but i dont use you or anyone as an allusion to DD issues...i only respond to your comments...

and they are not my DD problems in CA, USA and the world...they are systemic and societal problems.

for now i will try not to respond to your comments...and if tempted will do as my momma told to do when i contemplated misbehaving as a child...she told me to say, 'get thee behind me satan'...it didn't stop me today, tho... :)

Doug The Una said...

Come on, friends. You don't have to reply to each other. I'll try to write something soon and meanwhile there's a whole lot of internet out there.

Damnit, would someone please tell me when life stirs, or death spasms, on the oft-barren moonscape of DD System Reform? I didn't know people were talking and Stanley was back in the mix. I hadn't seen, nor heard of, Stanley since (pretty suspiciously) the election of Pope Francis last Spring.

Of course, I knew Stanley would never choose "Pope Stanley" for his pontificacy, but the pieces didn't really start falling into place until I heard the new pope had chosen "Francis" as his nom de papacy. This is a Stanley sort of name if I've ever heard one!

Mix in the obvious physical resemblance between Stan and Fran; the almost immediate Vatican cage rattling; the stark changes in papal statements, gestures and behaviors; the suddenly prominent place given to the disabled in the Pope's public appearances, and it doesn't take Jim Garrison to connect the conspiratorial dots.

I was convinced well before the patented Stanleyism of "Who am I to judge?" hit the newspapers. I, for one, welcome my old pal Stan the Baptist coming in from the wilderness to slip on the Shoes of the Fisherman.

I have to wonder, though, if you had known, Holy Father, that Terri D. was going to leave DDS would you have not settled for a "second choice" position like successor to St. Peter? Would you have let it go and waited a few months for the top banana spot at DDS?

The world wins either way, I suppose. But, it's nice to see our old pal stirring up shit, from whatever perch he chooses.

Oh, and if DD System Reform insists that postings be in some way relevant DD services ... let me just say that the system has very adequate funding (though thoughtlessly and horribly distributed) and its services typically do far more harm than good.

Doug, any big changes in your life you may want to share with your loyal legions of blog followers?

stanley seigler said...

andy's smoking again...literary wise and who knows whatever wise...anyway glad to know he's back...with all his facetious nonsense...

Oh, and also with some relevance to DD System Reform...eg, let me [andy] just say that the system has very adequate funding (though thoughtlessly and horribly distributed) and its services typically do far more harm than good.

not sure it's adequate...but for sure funding not used effectively...and 'services do more harm than good.' in many cases...eg, most group homes are mini DCs...

perhaps system administrators, as a first reform step, should adopt the hippocratic oath, 'do no harm'...
